Fall 2017 Intern Blog Series: Oppression

A new semester means some new faces here at GOL. We have a few new interns from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. With a new semester and new faces, we will also be working on some new projects. One of our projects this semester gives us the opportunity to work with a local artist on a project about oppression. He will work to depict global oppression through photography, and we will host an event that will put his work on display. Helping us to spread the word about our organization, and about our projects, we also hope to spread knowledge about global oppression. Oppression is defined as, “prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control.” There is oppression everywhere in this world. Women, children, and men are all subjected to different forms of oppression. Ranging from violence to sexism we all see oppression in our everyday lives. We must work together as a society and community to end these acts of oppression at home and around the world. By spreading the word through works of art and real life stories we may be able to start the beginning of the end of oppression here at home. Megan]]>
