Who: GOL, UNHCR and various volunteers on Lesvos Island and Athens.
What: Our team was joined with vast numbers of volunteers such as doctors and emergency relief specialists to help out with the refugee crisis in Greece.
Accomplishment: We reached thousands of refugees rushing on shore and helped them settle in refugee camps while working on their asylum documentation to transition to an EU country. GOL’s team participated in many stages of refugee settlement processes such as distributing medical aid as our doctors checked on vital signs in refugee clinics, scouted out refugee rescue boats in the sea, and engaged in conversations with refugees and other organizations to produce a more permanent solution for sustainability and job security.
